HAND AND UPPER LIMB

Thumb hypoplasia corresponds to insufficient thumb development resulting in reduced size and joint, muscle, and tendon problems that limit function. In more severe cases, the thumb may be just a floating appendage or not even exist. Depending on the severity of the case, there may be a need to strengthen the tendons to improve mobility and joint stability, or to completely re-create a thumb, which is usually done using the index finger transposed to the place of the thumb (pollicisation).
