THIGHS

1. Thigh Lift (Cruroplasty)

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Improves thigh appearance by eliminating skin and fat

HOW IT WORKS

Thigh lift, or cruroplasty, is a surgical procedure that improves the aesthetics of the thigh, allowing elimination of excess skin and fat from its inner part, which can lead to discomfort in walk in more severe cases. On the other hand, it also reduces the circumference of the thigh, an effect which can be boosted by a complementary liposuction, so as not only to achieve a younger but also thinner look. The incision is located in the groin and inner thigh (vertical cruroplasty technique), although in some cases it is possible to keep the scar only in the groin area (horizontal or inguinal scar cruroplasty)

PROCEDURE DURATION

2h

OPTIONAL ASSOCIATED PROCEDURES

Liposuction. We do not generally recommend other associated procedures at the same time, especially abdominoplasty, because currently scientific literature points to a considerable increase in surgical risks with this combination

TYPE OF ANESTHESIA

SCARS

The scar is located in the groin and inner thigh (vertical cruroplasty technique), extending to the middle of the thigh or even slightly above the knee, although in some cases it is possible to keep the scar only in the groin area (horizontal or inguinal scar cruroplasty)

HOSPITAL STAY

Outpatient or 1 day in hospital

RECOVERY

You can resume work at 2-3 weeks depending on your work, as long as it does not require exertion. Physical exercise resumes at 6 weeks. During this time, you should wear compression tights, specifically recommended by our team. Lymphatic drainage performed by professionals with experience in this type of procedure is a complementary technique that can be performed after 15 days

RISKS AND MOST FREQUENT PROBLEMS

You can expect some swelling and bruising in the first few days. The most common problems are seroma and minor healing problems, which are usually not very relevant, although there may sometimes appear a slight scar enlargement in these cases. Rarer are hematoma and infection, as well as excessive scarring (hypertrophic scars). One of the most fearsome complications is pulmonary thromboembolism, therefore early ambulation is important

PROCEDURE LONGEVITY

The procedure is definitive as long as there are no significant changes in weight

2. Thigh Liposuction

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Improves body contour by removing unwanted fat deposits

HOW IT WORKS

Liposuction, lipoplasty or liposculpture corresponds to a surgical procedure with aspiration of fat through the introduction of cannulas by small holes in the skin. It allows reducing the volume of body fat, provided that in moderate amounts, because the counterpart is excess skin and subsequent sagging if too much is aspirated. It must therefore be performed by an accredited plastic surgeon, and should not be considered in a simplistic way, as some may wish to believe.

Liposuction is not, therefore, a substitute for cases where there is excess/redundancy of skin, hence open surgery techniques such as abdominoplasty, brachioplasty or facelift will be better indicated. It serves to resolve some accumulated fat deposits "resistant" to diet and weight loss, within the expected range of elasticity and retraction of the skin in the postoperative period. For this, it is desirable that the patient presents a balanced weight, if not very close to the ideal.

Control of blood loss and postoperative analgesia are also important, and this is why our team uses infiltration of saline solution with anaesthetic and adrenaline before aspiration of fat, as it increases the safety of the procedure and reduces blood loss.

The most common sites for liposuction are the belly and flanks, upper arms, back, side of the buttocks/hip, thighs, knees and legs and the neck jowls

The aspirated fat can be treated and reintroduced in other areas of the body in order to increase its volumes and improve aesthetics, such as enlarging the buttocks, breast, or as a filler for the face or the female genital region (labia majora)

PROCEDURE DURATION

It depends on the areas to be aspirated and if fat grafting is planned. It can vary from 1h to 3h30

OPTIONAL ASSOCIATED PROCEDURES

Abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift, face lift, neck lift, fat grafting (lipofilling)

TYPE OF ANESTHESIA

General anaesthesia

SCARS

Small scars concealed in areas of natural folds/wrinkles

HOSPITAL STAY

If applied to small areas, it can be performed in an outpatient clinic, or with 1 day of hospitalization in more complex procedures

RECOVERY

You can return to work in 2-3 days and resume physical activity at 4 weeks. Depending on the liposuctioned areas, there may be a need for specific compressive clothing (indicated by our team)

RISKS AND MOST FREQUENT PROBLEMS

In the first days, swelling, sensitivity to touch, drainage through the cannula orifices. Skin flaccidity may also occur, hyper- or hypo-correction, hematoma, irregularities. There are also less frequent risks of fluid retention and/or excessive loss of blood and fluid and rarely pulmonary embolism in the postoperative period

PROCEDURE LONGEVITY

Usually the effect lasts for many years. The areas aspirated, due to the fibrosis that is formed, are less likely to re-accumulate fat, compared to non-liposuctioned zones

General anaesthesia

3. Aqualyx®

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Reduces localized fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise, without the need for surgery

HOW IT WORKS

Aqualyx, also known as intralipotherapy, is a non-surgical medical treatment that consists of injecting an aqueous solution (based on acid/sodium deoxycholate) directly into subcutaneous adipose tissue. This solution destroys the membrane of fat cells (adipocytes), liquefying them, and then being eliminated naturally by the body's lymphatic system.

Aqualyx is therefore not a substitute for liposuction in cases of large volumes of fat to be removed, in these cases surgery/liposuction will be more indicated. It serves to treat small to moderate localized and "resistant" fat deposits, in a logic of body and facial contouring, and not as a method of weight loss. For this, it is desirable that the patient has a balanced weight and realistic expectations regarding the result.

It is also important to have adequate hydration before and after treatment, as water facilitates the elimination of destroyed fat cells and contributes to the effectiveness of the procedure.

The most common sites for treatment with Aqualyx are the jowls and chin, the abdomen and flanks, the inner thighs and knees, the back, and the upper arms.

Unlike the fat aspirated in liposuction, the fat destroyed by Aqualyx cannot be reused or reintroduced into other areas of the body, as it is eliminated by the body itself.

PROCEDURE DURATION

30 minutes

TYPE OF ANESTHESIA

The injected solution itself already includes anesthetic

SCARS

No scars

HOSPITAL STAY

Procedure performed in the office

RECOVERY

Resumption of daily activities practically immediately. It is recommended to avoid intense physical exercise, heat (saunas, hot baths) and direct sun exposure in the first 48 hours

RISKS AND MOST FREQUENT PROBLEMS

In the first few days, swelling, redness, sensitivity to touch and bruising at the injection site. Temporary hardening of the treated area and numbness may also appear, which usually resolve in 6 to 8 weeks. Rarely, skin necrosis may occur

PROCEDURE LONGEVITY

Destroyed fat cells do not regenerate, so the results tend to be long-lasting as long as the patient maintains a stable weight. It usually takes between 2 to 5 sessions, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart, to achieve the desired final result
