Correction of Earlobe Rending

WHAT IS IT FOR?

Corrects earlobe rending caused by earrings

HOW IT WORKS

This is a surgical procedure that reconstructs the continuity of the earlobe skin after complete or incomplete rending. The tear may be closed with no earring hole (for creating a hole in another area later) or keeping the hole open. In the latter case, the use of appropriate earrings in the first few weeks (e.g., gold earrings) is recommended. The most common causes are pulling an earring forcefully or the frequent use of heavy earrings, thus the use of earrings after surgery should be restricted to light weights to avoid relapse

PROCEDURE DURATION

20-30 minutes each ear

TYPE OF ANESTHESIA

Local anaesthesia

SCARS

Scars are small within the operated area, becoming almost imperceptible at social conversation distance, and can be hidden using earrings

HOSPITAL STAY

Does not require hospitalization

RECOVERY

Immediate, and stiches are removed after 5-7 days. Physical activity can be resumed at 2 weeks

RISKS AND MOST FREQUENT PROBLEMS

If you keep using heavy earrings this problem can reappear. Less common risks are infection and excessive scarring (more frequent in African ethnicity)

PROCEDURE LONGEVITY

Lifelong if postoperative indications are respected
