What is it for?

Improves symptoms of numbness and lack of hand strength in cases of nerve compression

 

What does it mean?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a medial nerve compression disorder at the wrist level, which results in numbness, tingling, and lack of strength in the hand, on the palm side, except for the fifth finger ("little finger"). The surgery consists of the release of the ligament that causes the compression of the nerve

 

Procedure time

20-30 minutes

Local anaesthesia or brachial plexus block (with or without sedation)

Scar in the middle of the base of the palm

 

Hospitalization

No hospitalization required

 

Recovery

You can resume normal hand use at 10 days, except for exertion, which should only be started at 6 weeks. It may take 3 to 4 months to fully regain strength

 

Most frequent problems and risks

Infection, bleeding, nerve damage (although they are rare occurrences), pillar pain (pain in the wrist) in the first few months

 

Longevity

Usually the result is long lasting
